The Schwenninger Moos

The Schwenninger Moor, a three square kilometer nature reserve at 705 m above sea level, is home to the source of the 362 km long Neckar river. The European watershed runs through here, separating the catchment basins of the mighty Rhine and Danube rivers. A hiking trail leads around the core area of the moor through spruce and birch forests, offering partial views of the open moor area and allowing you to closely observe the regenerating vegetation, fauna and wildlife.

Franciscan Museum 

The Franciscan Museum, with 2,500 sqm of exhibition space, is the largest cultural history museum in the region and possesses a collection that spans from prehistory to the present. It is located in the heart of Villingen’s old town in a former Franciscan monastery complex from the 13th to 18th centuries. The permanent exhibition is divided into three sections: city history from its beginnings to today, Black Forest collection, and Celtic princely grave Magdalenenberg. Unique testimonies of art, folklore, and archaeology are made tangible, multimedia, and accessible to all senses.
